Compressed air systems with a filter, pressure regulator and oil nebulizer (FRL) are used for air supply and air preparation to ensure proper operation of pneumatic parts and extend their service life. The air supplied by compressors is often contaminated, is not supplied at the correct or constant pressure, and does not have the correct lubrication. An FRL unit can therefore help prevent possible damage to equipment. Filters, pressure regulators and oil nebulizers can be purchased individually or as a set (as shown in Figure 1), depending on air quality requirements.
A FRL unit is recommended if you:
Use pneumatic tools and equipment
Install an HVAC system
It is necessary to provide clean air
Must comply with ISO, OSHA, ASHRA or other air quality standards
Want to improve the life, safety and reliability of your air system
What do FRL systems do?
An FRL system consists of a filter (F), pressure regulator (R ) and an oil nebulizer (L). They are often used as one system to ensure clean air in a pneumatic system, but can also be used separately. An FRL unit in a pneumatic system ensures a higher reliability of the parts, less energy wasted due to excessive working pressure and a longer life of the parts. The three components work together to achieve the following:
Filters remove water, dirt and other harmful particles from the compressed air. This is often the first step in improving air quality.
Pressure regulators regulate outgoing air pressure to a set constant value to ensure that down-line components do not exceed maximum working pressure. This is the second step in the FRL system.
Oil misters reduce internal friction in tools or equipment by delivering a controlled mist of oil into the compressed air. This is usually done last and/or just before the part needs to be lubricated.
